Horton: Horton describes angels as heavenly servants who were created to serve God. Angels minister to people, watch over believers, and learn the truths of God’s unfolding mystery in Christ. Horton believes that God brings angels into existence and they have the ability to choose whether to follow God or not. “The fallen angels are not treated as evil by creation but as followers of Satan in his mutiny” (407). Horton speaks of Satan as the most angelic angel, but became prideful and planned to overtake God. Satan was then casted from heaven and plotted to destroy all of those that follow God. Horton explains to us that all of those people that follow God will be attacked by Satan and his demons. Bray: Bray wants us to look at is whether …show more content…
He also shares with us the different groups of angels that are believed to be in the spiritual realm of the angels. The main part that we will focus on that Berkof is talking about is the service of the angels and the evil angels or demons that he talks about. There are two types of service that Berkof describes for the angels which is ordinary and extraordinary service. According to Berkof, the first ordinary service the angels do is praise God day and night. There are other acts of ordinary service they do as well. “Since the entrance of sin into the world they are sent forth to minister to them that are heirs of salvation, they rejoice at the conversion of a sinner, watch over believers, protect the little ones, are present in the Church, learning from her...” (147). The extraordinary that the Angels serve us with is mediating special revelations of God, communicating blessings from God, and executing his judgement to his enemies. There are also three parts to the evil Angels that Berkof shows us. He wants us to look at their origin, their head, and their activity. The evil Angels were not created evil according to Berkof, but they had a choice to become evil just as we have a choice to accept Christ. Their head is obviously Lucifer who had the greatest power under Christ who tempts man and causes him to sin. Next we will look at their activity. "While …show more content…
All three believe that God brought angels into existence and that they serve him in different ways. Horton and Berkof speak of the angels as having a choice and that the fallen angels or demons had a choice and chose to fall from God and follow Satan who was the most angelic of the angels. Bray seems to focus more on our ability to be in contact with the angels and demons, but states that we cannot be in relationship with them because of what a relationship would

The word “enemy” often is used to describe the devil or Satan; and the phrase “our father” is referred to as God. “All extremes, except extreme devotion to the Enemy, are to be encouraged”(32). However, in this quote from the book The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis, God is the enemy and the devil is referred to as our father below. Although it is a fiction story, the book still gives the readers a way to think about the world’s destruction and recovery through a devil’s aspect (New York, NY: Harper Collins Publishers, 1942). Temptation, the biggest reason humans struggle with their relationship with God, is being used by Screwtape in his letters to Wormwood.…

Originally Satan was a angel in heaven, until God banished him to hell. His creator made him an angel, and then made him into a hideous creature. Both Satan and the monster had appalling appearances because their creator made them that way. Since they despised their creators for making the hideous, they felt similar hatred towards them. The monster stated that “Many times I considered Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition; for often, like him, when I viewed the bliss of my protectors, the bitter gall of envy rose within me” (Shelley 117).…

I believe that the message of “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” was to not fear the unknown. The two main points that support this in the story, are how the town’s people treat the angel lesser than human and the symbolism of the chicken coop. The chicken coop symbolizes a cage that society puts people who are different in because when we don’t understand something, we fear it. At the end of the story, in paragraphs ten and eleven, the angel’s “job” is done and the son of Pelayo somewhat befriends him.…

Wink sees spiritual warfare manifests itself in the world through massive institutions and social structures and systems evils. Wink’s view of “Satan is more a function than a personality”.…

What is the difference between an angel and a demon? They began in the same place, and are powerful in doing what they want. Both are persuasive and influential in their dealings with others. The difference is their goals and their motives; angels protect kindness and order and demons advocate chaos and cruelty. Many times in literature, characters will represent the idea of angels versus demons.…

The more I think about it, the more the ignorant-angels theory explains. Consider: Asked about God, Metatron says thoughtfully, "He’s lonely… but he’s funny." In fact, the Holy Trinity is a perfect and eternal society, which means God always has great company and is never lonely. At the rededication of St. Michael’s Church, when Cardinal Glick refers to the church as "God’s house," Bartleby cries out, "God’s house? God doesn’t live here anymore.…

The story of A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings by Gabriel Marquez presents an array of characters. Marquez distracts away from the main character, the angel, by mentioning so many characters but at the same time shines a theoretical light on the angel. The most interesting question is not that of why the narrator mentions so many others but why these characters treat the angel in such a horrid manner. Many factors lead to why exactly such evil practices ridicule the angel such as human doubt by high officials, greed, and the monotony of life.…

Storytelling, the ancient art of teaching, aided in the enlightenment of communities when Google and Youtube did not exist. People learned through what they heard, which made oral storytelling the best method of assimilation for them. They learned of the great wars fought by their ancestors, the bloodshed and carnage. They sat enchanted by tales of forbidden love, heartbreaking and raw. Little by little they listened and little by little they absorbed so much knowledge of the world they lived in, so many lessons, so much wisdom inherited from history.…

“A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” by Gabriel Garcia Marquez is a short story in which a town mistreats and exploits a bizarre old man with wings who falls into their Village. Marquez’s portrayal of the character’s response to an unexpected guest underscores how their resistance to change and cruel treatment of someone who is weak and vulnerable and even alien inhibits their personal growth and limits the flowering of their world around them. In Marquez's story, a startling guest descends from the sky, and appears to test the faith of a villagers. The people have a troublesome time making sense of exactly how the exceptionally old man with wings fits into their perception of normal people’s lives.…

Paradise lost is a poem written by John Milton that explains the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and how they were tempted by one of God’s fallen angels Satan. Throughout the books Satan defies God and the debate starts whether Satan is a hero or anti-hero. I find in books one and two Satan appears more of a hero and that Blake was of not the Devils party. Book one of paradise lost explains that Milton was not of the devils’ party in regards to Satan was once an angel of light until he went against God. Satan rises off the Lake and challenges God with his speech to get God’s angels to turn there back and join the devils’ army.…
