Last year in 6th grade I made friends with a kid named Billy Bob. Everyone in the 6th grade made new friends because this was when both elementary schools combined into one middle school. I made a lot of new friends that year, but he did something i wasn’t expecting. I only had one class with billy, but we did talk a lot so I thought we would make great friends. He was so used to talking to me every day and when i didn’t i guess he thought I was mad at him. I didn’t think anything of it. I thought Billy would understand that I just didn’t want to talk. But boy was I wrong. The next day at school he came up to me and started going off on how he was so disappointed and mad he was at me. I tried to explain myself but he never a chance to. Even after he did that I wasn’t mad at him. Little did I know what he was going to do

1969, Billy Pilgrim lacks all the qualities of a hero. He is not brave, wise, experienced, strong, or cunning. Even though Billy is one of the main characters in the novel Slaughterhouse-Five, he is not a hero by any means. When volunteering at West Minnehaha it made me realize things that I didn’t pay attention to before going in. The point was to build relationships, problem solve, what to do in a conflict situation, and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned how to do every single one of those things. I realized that the kids are in need of someone who they can look up to and a dependable person who they can count on. For example, I was looking after a few kids that were doing homework and when walking around I hear a conversation of two kids.…

I was beginning to get nervous. Bobby Joe was on his knees praying, George had just called and said he was on his way over, and it finally had hit me that I was getting into something much larger than I’d originally thought. Besides that, my logic takes over and I question too many things.…

In Michael Ondaatje’s novel, Billy’s visual impressions are described as monochrome photography repeatedly throughout the entire book. The tones of grey and the exposure of light are used to illustrates places and time events as if it was a series of frames. For example, Billy is describing what he sees as if it was a monochrome photography, in which there is light and “the color grey with remnants of brown” (13). As a camera would, he is scanning “the thirty or so grey cans in one corner of the room, their ellipses, from where [he] sat, setting up patterns in the dark” (13). The photography’s metaphor is seen in Billy’s visual impressions.…
