Bill Watterson draws if he can’t think of a topic. The cartoonist admits , “If I don’t have a ready topic, I try to think of what I would like to draw (Watterson). The author writes all his ideas in an ordinary school notebook. Watterson says, “ I write in pencil, and go through erasers at an alarming rate.” After several days the author looks at his rough draft when he is “ fresher and more objective” (Watterson). The author says that when he thinks of an idea, “ I rush for a pencil, a crayon, a lipstick, anything that will write and scribble a few words…”(Dahl). One time the author was driving his car when all of a sudden he had an idea for a story, but he didn’t have anything to write with. He then got out of his car and wrote with his finger the word “elevator” on the back of his car’s trunk so he wouldn’t forget the idea he had ( Dahl). The author also says “That was enough. As soon as I got home I wrote down my idea in an old school exercise book…”
