Bill Murray was born September 21, 1950, in Evanston, Illinois to parents Lucille Murray, and Edward J. Murray II. As a child, he played baseball in a rock band, The Flying Dutch Masters. Murray attended Loyola Academy for high school, he graduated in 1968. For college, he attended Regis University in Denver studying pre-med. Growing up, his family always struggled with money, so Murray worked as a caddy at a local golf course to pay his tuition and develop his love for golf. In 1970, he dropped out of college and moved to Chicago. Soon after that, on his 20th birthday, he was caught trying to get on a plane with 10 lbs of marijuana, he was charged and put on probation. After his arrest in 1973 his brother, Brian Murray took him to his comedy …show more content…
During his time on SNL, Murray created his iconic sleazy, and ironic style. He won his first Emmy on the show for his writing abilities. SNL helped jumpstart his film career, in 1979 he starred in his first major movie, Meatballs. Once his career took off he had hit after hit come out, from 1980-1984 he starred in Caddyshack, Stripes Tootsie, and Ghostbusters. But when Murray’s passion project The Razor's Edge flopped, he took a break from acting and disappeared for four years. In 1988 Murray returned to the big screen and starred in Ghostbusters 2, Groundhog Day, and Scrooged. Murray continued to be a busy figure in the entertainment industry, working on comedy and producing. He also has become known for his spontaneous and unpredictable antics, often surprising fans, once Murray was seen cooking and washing dishes during a college party in St Andrews, Scotland. Currently, Murray is taking part in small cameos and working on set with Wes Anderson, for his upcoming film “The French Dispatch”.
