Centuries ago, the University of Bologna, the oldest secondary school in the western world, opened it’s doors to further the education of those who were considered masters of grammar, rhetoric, and logic willing to dive into the arts of law. Right there, a person can see that it was difficult to get into a college. Harvard University, the oldest university in North America, taught the same material they had learned as they were students to a more privileged generation of students that were capable of attending a school of higher education. These students had the privilege of getting a better education, but as one travels through time to a more modern college, it was a privilege and a luxury for a student to attend college. The cost of attending college was growing immensely, students were having to pay several dollars just to get into a college. This barred several people, especially those of the lower class, from getting a chance to follow their dreams. This is why several parents dream and hope for their children to get a better chance at life. My parents were the same way, my mother never had the chance of attending college and my father would go to a class here and there but never actually attend college to the full extent. The answer lies within our own hearts and minds. People have different connotations of the word education and many people have different ways of expressing what education means. Education is a chance to gain more knowledge in career field that one wants to pursue, education is a waste of time, education is necessity for achieving a life better than one that is taking place. These are a few of the conative ideas of what education means to several people. Education, however, to someone like me is a privilege, a chance at a better life, an event that makes one think constantly, and a chance to grow closer to the things we love the most. Education is a life learning experience that many don’t get to experience. Education is a chance to pursue the many dreams that we had as kids running around barefoot in the backwoods making up adventures. Never let one’s dreams diminish at the cost of education, let it flourish and grow and guide them to what they love the most.
