Bill Belichick has stated that building a championship team and players is based not only on value and principles, but having a passion for participation and eagerness to perform (Hughes). This example proves that surrounding each other in a comfortable scenario and environment that you will constantly be in will better increase your will to play and your involvement on the team. Coaches play one of the biggest roles in your experience in sports, whether you are in club or school sport, or even if you progress into a collegiate or pro sport if that is what your plan entails. Many teams do different types of team building activities to boost confidence in each other on and off the playing field. Typically, the sessions are something simple in which every player plays a role and contributes to the activity. As a result of that the confidence and trust in each other carries over onto the field, whether it is during practice or during a game. Depending on what the activity is the funding is through the coach or the individuals themselves. The members of the team can reap these benefits and carry them over into not only their life on the field, but their daily lives as well. Team building activities can assist when athletes have trouble expressing themselves and opinions because it breaks the barriers between friend groups on a team. Popular techniques of off season include lifting, team runs, and conditioning. They all require athletes to get involved and better themselves for their season. When you are all together putting in the blood, sweat, and tears it brings the team together because all the members of are boosting each other’s confidence to get better. In addition, lifting can provide the extra strength you might need to go the extra time in a game or push that last little bit. To boost speed, strength, flexibility, balance, and more, off season work is very important. Many coaches encourage, but do not require attendance at these sessions because it is technically no in season, so it cannot be considered a practice.
