Bilbys, also known as rabbit eared bandicoots, are among the largest in the bandicoot family, measuring up to 55 centimeters in length with a tail of around 29 centimeters. It possesses extremely soft blue-grey fur and a white underbelly. Its tail is black with a white tuft at the end. The long ears of the bilby are virtually hairless, but have amazing hearing. Its pointy snout, which is pink and hairless at the tip, provides a superior sense of smell. The bilby has very poor eyesight, which is most likely because of its unbelievable smell and hearing. These super senses help the bilby to drack down prey. Its favorite foods include insects, snails, grubs, mice and lizards.
The bilby holds record for the fastest reproducing mammal. After mating, the female is able to reproduce with a gestation period of only twelve to fourteen days, usually having litters of around one to three joeys.
