Bilbo's Transformation In The Hobbit

Improved Essays
Throughout the adventure, the dwarves started to trust Bilbo more as a leader, and listened to his opinions as if he had been leading them from the beginning. Thorin and the others realized that Bilbo is right and that he would be most apt to lead when Gandalf leaves. The hobbit was always coming up with solutions to the problems faced by him and the dwarves. One example is when spiders captured the company. Bilbo discovered a way to rescue them by leading the spiders away, while wearing the ring, calling them names and singing vile songs. He also aided the dwarves when the wood elves found and seized them. Mr. Baggins found an exit to the palace and freed Thorin from a hidden cell, all without taking the ring off once in order to stay hidden.

In chapter 8, the text states that Bilbo was able to free himself from some sticky spider web and kill the spider that trapped him. After that, Bilbo found the dwarves, scared all the spiders away by throwing stones, and then he freed the dwarves with his sword. Knowing this, we can infer that Bilbo has definitely changed from hobbit to hero because the original Bilbo would not have done something so brave and dangerous to save his friends. Along with the spider killing and friend saving, Bilbo was also able to help the dwarves escape from the wood elves by stealing the keys from the guards and floating them down the river in barrels.…

The most important one of all is that Christ saved the world. Bilbo somewhat saved the world also. He spotted the dragon’s weak spot, which later resulted in Smaug’s death, with the help of a snooping bird. He also gave up his share of the treasure to initiate peace, and later on that united everyone together to fight against the wargs and the goblins. With the death of the dragon and the victory of the battle, the world was saved, with help from…

Another one of bilbo’s important skills is intelligence. Intelligence is something that everyone has, but in Bilbo’s case he is more intelligent than he thinks. Throughout the book Bilbo has done things that I wouldn’t have even thought to do. He had to come up with different ways to save the dwarves many times. For example, when Bilbo had to save the dwarves from the wood-elves they had spent days in that palace trapped eating food they didn’t want, and they were being forced to tell them something that they didn’t want to say.…

Even though Bilbo is an adult when the The Hobbit begins, him stepping out of his comfort zone and choosing to go on the adventure also leads him to embark on another, his coming-of-age and physiological journey. Bilbo’s quest was an essential aspect for him to find success within himself and him coming-of-age. Three main reasons why Bilbo matures throughout the novel is Biblo stepping out of his comfort zone and taking risks, Bilbo being more confident and learning he is good under pressure and lastly Bilbo being more courageous and taking on more leadership roles. At the time Bilbo has to deal with the spiders, Gandalf forsook them and the dwarves were captured and separated after wandering in the darkness like vagabonds. Because it was completely up to Bilbo to save the other dwarves, he was forced to take more responsibility and ended up being the one deciding for the group. As they were dealing with depredations of the spiders, Bilbo says “‘I shall draw the spiders off, if I can; and you must keep together and make in the opposite direction(Tolkien 163).’” This shows that Bilbo is more of a leader because he is commanding the group now that there is no longer anyone else like Gandalf or the other dwarves, who were dizzy after being captured. This is in stark contrast to earlier in the book before he has this development when he deals with the trolls.…

Bilbo, the main character of the story, is a highly respected hobbit because of his family and the fact that he never been on an adventure (hobbits never leave), until now. He is chosen to become a thief and leaves his very comfortable hobbit hole to join thirteen people on an adventure. In the beginning, the hobbit is constantly getting the group in trouble and they start doubting him. Later on the journey, however, he becomes more “heroic” and starts getting his party and himself out of danger. An example of this would be the time when everyone fell asleep and the dwarves were captured by the spiders in the forest, Bilbo used his ring to become invisible and distract the spiders to free the dwarves.…

Bilbo serves as The Hero in The Hobbit. At the beginning of the story, he acted oblivious about this entire journey. “He liked visitors, but he liked to know them before they arrived, and he prefered to ask them himself” (J.R.R Tolkien, The Hobbit, page.10). Bilbo did not expect all of the dwarves at his house at all, in fact, it kind of flustered him. After a day, Bilbo traveled up his way to the mountain with the thirteen dwarves.…
