Bilbo: The Safe Side

The safe side. The safe side is when someone is wanting to do something maybe dangerous or something wrong and you would rather stay away from trouble. That was Bilbo all the time before he went on an adventure with the dwarves and Gandalf. He let loose at sometimes, and the readers started to see his “tookish” side. Meaning he stepped out of his comfort zone. In the beginning of the novel, Bilbo invited Gandalf over for tea time. Come tea time Bilbo expects the wizard, instead, thirteen dwarves show up instead. A small amount of time goes by, after the wizard shows up and out of the blue, they start to plan an adventure. When they start to plan, Bilbo is not happy with the idea. He decided “ I am tired of running, I will escape and find my friends” After giving riddles to each other, Bilbo won this game. The agreement was to help Bilbo, so Gollum gave him a ring that made him turn invisible. Gollum soon thought he had made a mistake giving that ring, so he tried to catch him. Luckily, Bilbo escaped him and reached the Goblins. He ran into an issue. In the novel, it states, “ Whether it was an accident, or a last trick of he ring before it took a new master, but it was not on his finger.” Bilbo the fond the ring in his pocket and slipped it on which was able to save him from the goblins and help him escape. As said before, he ran over to the tookish side of him and decided to escape. This sealed that he had become to use his took side more often than when he first was on his journey. To conclude, our friend Bilbo transformed from a normal boring hobbit to a thrill seeking adventurer. He just took a couple risks that he would normally not do and he realized in the end that it was a better lifestyle than being normal.
