Bilbo Baggins 'Heroic Character In The Hobbit'

Improved Essays
1) The first character I chose that in my opinion demonstrates heroic qualities in The Hobbit is Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo starts off as just an ordinary hobbit but as he is on his journey with Gandalf and the Dwarves he truly shows his heroic abilities. Time after time Bilbo pushes his limits and reveals all of the courage he truly has. In chapter two he is faced with his first burglary task which is to steal from the trolls. Although he does not succeed in this task what is truly important is that he had the courage to try. In my eyes heroes aren’t the people who win but the people who have the courage and strength to do what others can’t.
2) The second character that I believe demonstrates heroic qualities in The Hobbit is Gandalf. Gandalf is a very powerful and wise wizard who always knows more than he leads on. Throughout the whole

The characteristics that I see in a hero are putting others before yourself, courage, and overcoming weakness. Heroism is hard to define because it is the personal acts that make someone heroic. It can not be measured just by how large the act is, but by what is in the heart of the person and what they have to overcome personally to achieve these acts. “The greatest obstacle to being heroic is the doubt whether one may not be going to prove one's self a fool; the truest heroism is to resist the doubt; and the profoundest wisdom, to know when it ought to be resisted, and when it be obeyed.” (Hawthorne,…

Heroic journeys can happen in many different ways. Everyone has a journey in their life, not all are the same, as we can see in Moana and The hobbit. As we compare the heroic journeys of Moana and The Hobbit we can see The Hobbit creates a stronger heroic journey through analyzing the departure, initiation, and return. One of the part of a heroic journey is the departure, an example is in Moana how she has to leave her home island because her grandma has told her about the heart of tafiti and how Maui took it and she needs to go to find Maui and bring the heart of tafiti back to save their island, her dad did not want her to go because of he thinks the ocean is a very unsafe place due to his own memories from years ago, by leaving her island…

Every book and piece of literature has a hero in it. They all are different and they all face different challenges, that aren’t always slaying beasts like some people may assume. Yet, they all do have one thing in common; standing up for someone or doing the right thing or staying loyal, even while facing hardship. A type of hero is the one who does what is right even when others will frown on them and create prejudice. Examples are like Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird and Juror Eight from 12 Angry Men.…

“A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” Joseph Campbell. In the novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, there is multiple character portrayed as the hero of the story, including Thorin Oakenshield. But this is something I do not think to be entirely true. Some people believe heroes are people much alike to those written in comics wearing capes, while others believe they are everyday people.…
