What does one think of when they hear the word hero? Some may think of a masculine Marvel character. Others may think of someone they admire, such as a celebrity or parent. Typically, the person that comes to mind wouldn’t be a man smaller than a dwarf, who spends his days smoking his pipe and eating cakes. Yet, Mr. Bilbo Baggins fits this image perfectly. Bilbo has been put in extremely frightening situations very often. Usually he is scared, but in the end, he comes through for his friends. One example of this would be of when Bilbo saved the dwarves from imprisonment. He was scared at the start, which is proven by the sentence, “Ring or no ring he trembled with fear lest they should discover him.” He was terrified, but he knew what he needed to do. So, he gathered up his courage and saved his friends. Bilbo also found courage when he burgled the trolls. He was terrified to do what the dwarves requested, as shown in the statement, “He was very much alarmed, as well as disgusted: he wished himself a hundred miles away.” He was scared of being caught by the trolls, but, once again, he came through for the dwarves, like he always does. To conclude, Bilbo is a very courageous hero. He may be small, but he always comes through for his friends. He was always the person put in the most dangerous situations, and he was always frightened. Yet, he always found a way to do what needed to be done. His quest started out with him trembling in fear at the thought of adventure, and ended with him growing to be a very courageous hobbit.
