My father is a mathematics teacher and everyone presumed that I also have a bright mind like my father. But the truth was quite bitter. Although I was brought up with all the facilities a child could get I was still an average student. I displayed a sharp and inquisitive mind, but my indolence always dragged me to average standard.
Things started to turn around, when I graduated to tenth grade. Based on a student’s level of understanding, we were categorized into smaller sections for coaching. Students with the best grasp were selected in Group-E. Students with lower understanding were selected in other sections. The day of selection arrived and I wasn’t selected in group E. I was anguished amidst the happy faces of my friends. It was that moment when I encountered the jealousy and egoistic part of human behavior; it feels bad when a friend falls back, but it feels even worse when he is ahead of you. Moreover, I am not hesitant to take projects that require learning new skills. Furthermore, I am working with other undergraduate researchers, which exposes me to different ideas and improve my socializing skills. I have also presented my research in many conferences form regional such as the LBRN Meetings and the SE-IDeA Meetings to national conferences such as the APS March Meeting and the AAPT Winter Meeting. The presentations and meetings helped to expose me to the physics community as well as informed on the current researches in the field. My research with Dr. Kim has also encouraged me to work on an independent project on granular convection.
