The Westboro Baptist church became infamous in 1998 when they protested at the funeral of Matthew Shepard who was killed due to his sextual orientation. They originated long before this controversial protest, and they have continued to protest at funerals of: public figures, children, and soldiers. The Westboro Baptist Church claims to have taken part in over 40,000 protest since 1991, portraying an image of a huge enterprise; when in reality there is less than 100 members, primarily members of Fred Phelps family. The Westboro Baptists are a religious group from Topeka, Kansas. The Westboro Baptists protest at funerals, as well as many other events, with signs that say God is killing soldiers to punish America’s tolerance of homosexuals. Some of the signs are painted with hateful messages, such as “God Hates Fags” and “No Fags In Heaven”. These signs were carried in protest outside of Matthew Snyder’s funeral, a fallen soldier. His grieving father, Albert Snyder, sued Westboro Baptist church for belief in his right to mourn his son in peace, without the hateful bombardment of Westboro Baptists screaming “Thank God for Dead Soldiers”.…

An Emmaus boys soccer player repeatedly called an opposing team's player a racial slur during last week's game, multiple witnesses said. The Emmaus senior, who is white, continued to hurl the slur at Whitehall junior Javaughn Hussett, who is black, even after being confronted by his coach, John Cari, and the opposing team's players, according to Hussett's mother, Tanya, and teammate Anthony Kleckner. Kleckner said other Emmaus players directed racial digs at Hussett, though not as loudly or as often as their teammate. The English defeated the French and were able to control what we now call the United States of America. Racism has been around for many years and it is an issue that has never been fully resolved, although some may believe that it has. It is not uncommon to see crimes being mentioned everywhere but thanks to the media, we have seen the many incidents occurring recently involving white cops and black men, hence we have come to realize how racist we really are as a society and how big of an issue racism actually is even now. My biggest passion in life is advocating for the equality of underrepresented and marginalized communities, including women, the lower class, those of color, and other groups that are purposefully separated from the dominant, normative society. Many of the ways in which I express these efforts and challenge these types of bigotries that occur in covert and overt forms, is by providing a supportive and empathetic alliance for these groups. This is done by holding those accountable who commit prejudicial offenses, as well as participating in organized efforts in order to increase activism, awareness, and compassion for these victims of social injustice to ultimately achieve equality for every deserving individual, regardless of their social context.…
