Big Willie: A Terrific Father

Decent Essays
Big Willie was a big man with a big smile and a bigger heart. He was a pillar in his community and will be surely missed.
I knew Big Willie or ‘Stretch’ as I called him since I was 16 years old. He called me, Stevie, then and even though I’m 44 years old, he still calls me Stevie. I would introduce him to people as my uncle. The reactions we’d get were priceless!
Big Will was a good friend and a terrific father to his son. He always looked out for people who were smaller than him - which was just about everybody.
He was very proud when I became a lawyer, and he was equally proud and a huge help when I ran for judge in 2014. I was the only white candidate with campaign signs all over the south side of Chicago that year!
I miss you Stretch.
