Big School Research Paper

Big schools typically provide a wider variety of class choices because of the large amounts of students they have enrolled at their school. Because of the larger number of students enrolled in the school, the school receives more government funding to hire teachers to teach courses that would normally not be available at a smaller school. Class size also plays a big factor because the amount of people interested in taking a specific course could determine whether or not that course will be offered in the future. Big schools also have a wider range of clubs and sports teams. Those throughout the high schools can use these clubs to connect with other people with the same interests and hobbies and find their niche among the student body. This is mostly due to a deeper relationship with the teacher, rather than just being one in over a thousand people, like some large schools can be. Studies have shown that students in smaller schools have higher levels of achievement across the board, especially those in families with lower socioeconomic statuses. Because of the smaller amount of students attending these smaller schools, parents of students are more likely to become involved in school activities such as being a member of the school board or being a part of another parent club that puts on other school functions. Also, because of the fewer amount of students attending smaller schools, there is higher security. In smaller schools, many of the teachers typically know the majority of the students attending the school and they may be alert enough to spot a stranger if one were be on campus. Studies have also shown that there are fewer security and discipline issues in smaller schools and that the issues that do arise are much easier to maintain in comparison to larger
