Big Picture vs. Detail-Focused Learners If we are so concerned with students seeing the bigger picture in everything they learn, we should take a look at what it means to be a big picture learner versus a detailed focused learner. Instead of introducing new material that is not necessary for that year, I am going to have students complete a project about “Math in the Real World.” In this project students are going to research a career that they are interested pursuing after graduation and how math relates to that specific field. I am my 4-H club’s president. My club has 52 people in it with most of them being under the age of ten. Sometimes I regret running for president, but then at other times I feel it is a great leadership experience. The duties of a president are not only running the meetings and showing animals. It is about helping out the community, helping the younger members with their projects and teaching them how to be a better person and also teach them responsibility with taking care of their animals.…

My definition is that it is the part of literacy that helps students comprehend different subjects and the information that comes with the content. A student will not be completely successful if they do not fully understand what they are supposed to be learning. This puts a great deal of pressure on our shoulders as teachers to make sure our students can read and write successfully in all content areas.
