In August 2011, a dangerous high-wind thunderstorm would blow through Indianapolis bringing down the temporary stage where Sugarland was scheduled to perform that evening (Crandall, Parnell & Spillan, 2013). The fair officials were notified of the potential severity approximately thirty minutes before the band was scheduled to take the stage. The Indiana State Police advised the fair officials as well as the band to consider postponing the start of the show or cancelling it all together.
