Marketing Challenge For those who know me best, they know I am definitely a talker and am always wanting to be a leader in a group. School on the other hand was rather different; I always seemed to be nervous for any type of school presentation until I took my marketing class my sophomore year. At first, I looked forward to take a full year business class, but my nerves took over once I heard about all of the different types of presentations that were required throughout the year. Being one of the few sophomores in this senior dominated class was extremely intimidating to me since I was two years younger. The first presentation of the year was an individual assignment that involved giving a small speech about the marketing plan I had been working on for the last couple weeks. Since this was going to be my first solo speech, I was incredibly nervous. I kept thinking about it the night before, I wanted to get it over with. The day finally came and although I knew everything I wanted to say, I still …show more content…
I had to lead my group in opening the presentation which made it more nerve racking. For this presentation I knew I had to be on my A game as I had a chance to win some money. The day of the challenge came, and I was extremely anxious. It was the first time I’d ever have to present in front of a huge group of around 100-150 people. I was beyond nervous of how this presentation would go because I was way out of my comfort zone. I was going to be presenting in front of my peers along with a few business owners of Big Frog. I was nervous all the way up until I actually got up on stage and then I felt comfortable just like I did for my first presentation of the year. I had a weird flashback to after I finished my first speech of the year as I felt the same comfort

I was really confident and prepared when I started to give my speech. I know that if you go first you do not have many examples, but I like to see what other people did, and I also would have liked a few more examples to go off of. I was about seventh on the list on the Tuesday that I presented. To be honest, I did not think that I would have had to go. There were three people sick, and there were two people not ready so that made me second.…

There is a good number of presentation in this class and speaking in front of a class was something I was always scared and nervous about. It’s probably because I was scared of what people will think about the work we did as a group, forgetting what to say and saying something wrong. From watching the TED talk Brown IDEO Stanford I was not the only person that is scare about their work. Tim Brown the speaker at TED made his auditions to draw the person next to them in 30 sec. When the 30 sec was up, he heard a lot of people saying “sorry” and laughing.…

Before presenting my speech I went over it a lot to get myself prepared and ready for the day. The morning of, I woke up at 7:30 to continue to practice my speech and I felt very confident when the time came. I also started to try and relax whenever I thought of my speech and made myself believe that it was not as big of a deal as I was making it out to be. I tried to concentrate on my breathing, to calm my anxiety and help the nausea in my stomach.…

This gave me a great opportunity to observe my classmates speaking. I noted a few things and attempted to incorporate them into my speech. When it was my turn, I was still very nervous even though I had already spoken in front of this group. I knew that nerves cause me to speak too fast. So, I tried deep, calming breaths during my speech.…

The presentation will be organized and outlined in a way that allows me to get through the information in about 4 minutes, which should leave me a minute to spare on both sides if any complications were to arise. The presentation will contain no gimmicks or unnecessary information in order to save time and avoid confusion with assistants. The topic will also be on something that I am already familiar with, which hopefully will ease my nerves and anxiety seeing as I will be more comfortable with the material and less likely to forget it. By structuring my persuasive speech in this way, I hope I will be able to conduct a speech that is even better than my informative…

Facilitation was something that I had considered from the very moment I heard that I was able to apply. Honors Colloquium is such an interesting a unique course and I desperately wanted to give my experience to the incoming Honors freshman. However, leading up to being accepted as a Facilitator, and even after I was excepted I was nervous. Nervous, about being able to achieve the role of a Facilitator and nervous of performing the role well enough that my student excelled and became proficient in the tasks placed in front of them. Luckily though, to my advantage, we had a weekly breakout as well where I could express my concerns and grow throughout the year, slowly but surely developing into a leader.…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

However, I personally felt nervous as I was talking. This was reinforced by feedback I received which said “you seemed slightly nervous at first but then as confidence grew the teaching became increasingly better.” I felt this was due to a lack of preparation and could have easily been resolved by practice and repetition. Also, next time I will prepare some notes to prompt me and to ensure I do not forget to mention any important details the students may…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
