Big Five Evaluation

Decent Essays
Overall, the Big Five was almost true in my case, but I guess my result will be different if a friend or family member evaluate my personality. I think researchers try to figure out how accurate the results of personality are for each people by conducting similar assessment. And also, as mentioned in Personality Assessment in the textbook, it is impossible to measure all personalities using just one method because of its strengths and limitations, and the purposes of assessment such as an aptitude for the job and the research for particular area like biases toward black people on the implicit tests (Personality Assessment). Using various types of method could give us the more reliable results of our personality.

I also took the Big Five personality assessment and found it to be pretty accurate, and buzz feed quizzes are my favorite! I swear I always take them when they pop up on my social media accounts and I feel like they are pretty accurate when it comes to describing my personality, most of the time that is. I think my favorite one was one "build a pizza and we will tell you about your personality", it was the strangest thing but still fun.…

Trait theorists focus on the measurement of traits and believe that to better understand personality we should focus on an individual’s traits and characteristic behaviour(Saul Kassin,; 2003). Using the five-factor model of personality, trait theorists can develop different kinds of questionnaires, such as the NEO Personality Inventory, to measure a person’s personality traits (Costa, P.T. Jr. and McCrae, R.R, 1992). With this data, researchers can describe a person’s personality using the 5 global factors of the five-factor model. The five-factor model helps trait theorists identify characteristics that individuals possess and to the extent of which they are present (Matthews, Gerald; Deary, Ian J.; Whiteman, Martha C, 2003). According to Jason Rentfrow, Ph.D., the “Big 5” personality traits are: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience (Rentfrow, 2009). To determine my own personality traits, I took a version of the International Personality Item Pool test located at psychcentral.com, I found my scores of these five traits to be: extraversion 27, agreeableness 36, conscientiousness 33, neuroticism 24, and openness 33 (Goldberg et al., 2006). While the test did not indicate exactly what each raw number means, they did break down that I was average in extraversion, conscientiousness, and neuroticism, and above average in agreeableness and openness to experience. Extraversion relates to “[one’s] level of sociability and enthusiasm,” and overall energy in…

Having contact with an animal plays a significant role in increasing mood in both children and adults with mental health issues (Beetz et al., 2012).
