Big Eagle Benefits

Decent Essays
I’m a member of the Student Leadership Team at my school. We created a program called Big Eagle, Little Eagle for my high school. The program gives the opportunity for a elementary student to be paired up with a high student. This gives the high school student the opportunity to mentor younger students, who really need an older role model to talk to. The younger students are selected by the counselors as they know who needs the most support. After we are matched up with our Little Eagle, we meet with them once a week. We have lunch together and talk about their life.
The program’s goal was intended to only benefit the Little Eagle, although many of the he Big Eagles have benefited from this program as well. Personally, I have learned a lot

Beginning my sophomore year of high school, I had the privilege to become a member of Alma Folklorica de Oklahoma. It is a Mexican folklorico dance group in which we perform different dances from different regions of Mexico. Through this group I have learned many lessons on what a leader does, who a leader is, and what being a leader looks like. Each year we have new members join, as senior members graduate out. Usually your first year as a member consists of learning regions, learning the costumes and accessories for each region, and looking up to the veteran members for any doubts we may have.…

I am also involved in sports, which in order to excel, you need to put your education first. My first year on the Dance Team I received “Most Improved Dancer” award.…

I decided that I would take leadership roles throughout high school in order to help serve the less fortunate. KEY Club, a service and fundraising club, became my focus, and I travelled up the ranks to become the school’s external affairs manager and the service committee chair of the Eastern Canada District. As I introduced more extra-curricular activities into my life, organization became more important -- and I was shocked to see how much it helped me save…

I was asked if I would be interested in becoming a “Teen Trendsetter” through the Barbara Bush foundation to help mentor younger children in primarily reading, but also with any other homework they had. At first I was slightly hesitant, being that I was already involved in several other organizations such as Key club, Ski club, traveling soccer, etc. Although, after some thought and some research, I decided that I would give it a chance. To become a mentor, I had to go through online training to learn how to properly mentor and help my future mentee.…
