This report investigates three mini cases as provided by the brief (insert book title), these include Big E. Bank, Global consultants and Atlas advertising. The first mini case Big E. Banking (BEB) discusses the problems with connecting networks together over a wide area, all using different protocols to communicate. The second mini case addresses the problems with software acquisition including the methods used to communicate across different software products. The third mini case investigates the types of networks and network protocols used by the fictitious company Atlas Advertising. Each mini case will addresses the problems stated above including a set of pro 's and con 's of any alternatives.

GC is a huge company with over one hundred branches spanning many countries, this implies that software compatibility is paramount. Buying a software package from one company has two huge advantages over splitting the purchase between vendors, mainly ensured compatibility and support. As the company is large and split up between countries, GC needs to be confident that the software is able to communicate with each other. Failure in this area means that each branch will be delayed in its response to customers possible data inconsistencies across branches. Support is another incentive to buy from a single company. Buying the software from a single company ensures that reliable and adequate support will be provided to GC in-case of a problem. All the other points including New York, Providence and Philadelphia are 215, 50 and 307 miles away respectfully with Washington being 439 miles away. To cover such a vast space a combination of LAN, MAN and WAN networks are required to connect these areas. Within the five areas; Boston, New York, Providence, Washington DC and Philadelphia the local surrounding buildings are likely to be connected via a LAN, these LAN 's are then connected via a MAN to an internet backbone (BN).
