Big Brothers Big Sisters is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help children reach their full potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with volunteer mentors. Leading the little generation on to the right path to big things. Shermaine Battle started volunteering August 31, 2015 at Big Brothers Big Sisters as an after school tutor. Because is already interning for the organization which was the cause of the process not being so hard for her. Actually, she was already planning to tutor and when it was mentioned in class that we had to complete service learning hours. She thought it was to communicate with the director over tutoring to see if it was okay to achieve her twenty hours at the facility. Surprisingly, …show more content…
Then, the student would give her a rough time by talking back, getting to walk around with permission, get frustrated doing the work, and sometimes not do it right even after explaining the assignment to him. Now, she realized in between math and reading homework he’s mostly frustrated because he needs break. Instead of going straight into reading homework, she gives him a break that still allows them to get things done. This is done by letting him review his spelling words, test him on them and play any game of his choice combining his words into the game. For example, he loves playing tic-tac toe and for every round he lose he has to spell a word of the tutor choice, she mostly goes for the words he had difficulty spelling during the mock spelling …show more content…
Double income no kids life(DINKS) all the way was in her future because of the hard time the student was giving her. It was at that same moment in Shermaines’ life where the growth of patience and bring out her fun side came out.
In conclusion, Shermaine is just one of the many helping hands securing our future by dedicating time twice a week to tutor at-risk kids brighten up their educational
