First of all, the most important symbol that represents this novel is the organization of Big Brother. Big Brother symbolizes power when “he” is always watching over the citizens every move. “The eyes follow you about when you move. Big Brother is watching you” (Orwell 2). The quote repeats itself as the slogan the Party uses to withhold the citizen’s belief in the Party. “Then the face of Big Brother faded away again, and instead the three slogans of the Party stood out in bold capitals” (Orwell 16). The Party tries to emphasize this quote to its citizens on the telescreens that they see all over the civilization. This quote is designated by the Party to have the citizens believe in them. “The party even controls language and programs citizens to hold two contradictory ideas in their minds simultaneously.
