Openness is “to be receptive to new information, ideas, and experiences … available to what is new and fresh, unblocked by the filters of past conditioning” (Oestreich, 2005). In a time of globalization and increased competition in every industry, streamlining operations for optimal efficiency is a goal of any successful organization. Leaders need to be open to receiving input from customers, competitors, employees, and any number of areas in order to find the next great way to improve.
