In “Bien Pretty,” Lupe seeks to find herself in a new city by reflecting on her past relationships and learning form the one just was in. Her search leads her to find balance between who she really is on the inside versus what she has become as a Mexican-American. Her move form California to San Antonio was due to a failed relationship with Eduardo, only to find that when she arrives to Texas, the same fate awaits her. Cisneros uses this rejection as the cause and effect for Lupe trying to find a connection to her roots, but ultimately finds stability in the battle between her two cultures.
