In this article, they talk about the first genetically modified food to hit the market, the Flavr Savr. The Flavr Savr is a tomato that stay ripe without spoiling and have a better flavor than organic tomatoes. The authors discuss how scientist wish to alter more crops in order to increase the agriculture market as well as fix problems involving those crops. The authors lightly touched on the critics of this food but quickly dismisses there worries by stating the price is the scariest part of this food. Most of the articles she writes talk about certain topics like cost of housing and pricing. Due to her background, the reader can tell it will be more economic orientated than science orientated. This article is fairly recent therefore it will use the flavr savr as a reference rather than the center of focus. This article talks about the empty hope that many consumers had on GMOs. GMOs were once believed to benefit the consumer by providing more nutrients but instead it benefits the producer rather than the consumer. The flavr savr was the promise of better food but instead the consumers got ripped off my famers and biotechnology companies like Monsanto. I believe this article has relevant information that will be useful in my research paper.
