Edgar Allen Poe was an American editor, poet, and writer who is considered to me one of American’s great contributors to literature. His dark literature chilled bones with frightening scenes he captured with his imagery and suspense. Till this day his works influences culture and can be found in movies, shows, and other works of literature. His life was that of struggles and hardships and his death was like his works, shrouded in mystery.

In Boston, Massachusetts on January 19, 1809 Edgar Allen Poe was born to a simple working class family. His parents Elizabeth Arnold Poe and David Poe were humble actors but due unfortunate events the family were driven apart. David Poe abandoned the family in 1811 following the death of Elizabeth Arnold Poe a year later due to tuberculous cause Poe and his siblings to be place in different foster homes. It wasn’t until Poe got taken in to the Allan’s Home that he left the Orphanage. John Allen and Frances Valentine Allen took Poe in 1814. Frances raised Poe as if he were her own proving him with an excellent education in Richmond, Virginia. However, as Poe grew older his relationship with John began to deteriorate when Poe attended the University of Virginia.

Poe was unable to afford his semester tuition due to the disagreements he had with Mr.Allen due to Poe’s gambling debts and finances. After attending the…
