Some myths may be more popular than others, but there is still significant with the existence of other theories in the world. One of the most well-known theories is the Biblical flood story. In this story, God was upset at mankind and wanted to destroy it, but before doing so, He warned Noah, because he was righteous, and told him to build an arc. Noah followed the orders, and on the boat, was his family and two of every animal. Rain came from the sky for 40 days and 40 nights, which in turn, flooded the Earth for 150 days. The Greek story involves Zeus sending a flood to destroy the men of the Bronze Age. Prometheus knew of the plan, and warned his son, Deucalion to build a chest. Deucalion, and his wife, Pyrrha, floated on the chest for nine …show more content…
In this story, though, Jupiter was angry at the evil ways of humanity and decided to flood the Earth. He had the help of Neptune to cause a storm and an earthquake with the goal of flooding everything but the summit of Parnassus, which is where Deucalion and Pyrrha came by boat and found refuge. All of these theories have similarities; They all involve a divine being flooding the Earth to exterminate something they were unhappy with, and someone surviving by means of transportation, a boat of some sort. (Flood Theories). James Perloff has studied more than 200 flood myths and notes that in 95 percent of them, a global flood occurred, and 70 percent involved a person being saved by boat (Was There Really). These similarities of myths all over the world indicate that something must have happened to catalyze these …show more content…
This means the mountains did not have nearly as high of an altitude as they do now. The flood, along with other catastrophic forces, helped push the mountains tens of thousands of feet higher, much like we see today in our mountains. Also, about half of the water now in the oceans was "once in interconnected chambers about ten miles below the Earth's surface." This means that when the Earth's crust separated, the water trapped underneath escaped and flowed out like a fountain, flooding the Earth. Scientists have proved that there is still water underneath the Earth's surface because only underground channels of water could "transmit shockwaves thousands of miles from the epicenter of the earthquake." By proving the fact that water exists under the surface, it helps to prove the validity of this theory. (Does Science Prove) The event of the great flood is believed to have happened around 5,000 B.C., which is around the same time that the biblical flood, Noah's flood, happened. So there could be some connections, and the flood in the bible could possibly be the great flood in history. With this flood, about 150,000 square kilometers of land went under water. (Biblical

Hesiod's story of creation, which concentrates on the gods is different than Ovid's story of creation because in Hesiod story of creation, the areas of Earth seem to have happened by chance with no guidance, the Gods mated by chance, and have created things with no set purpose. Mankind is just there. According to Ovid in the beginning there appears to be guidance with not as much chaos. While the men were heading back to Ithaca, Zeus sent a massive storm to wreck their ship. Odysseus described this by stating, “Zeus… with thunder and lightning together crashed on our vessel… my men were thrown in the water… and the god took away their homecoming,” (XII: 415-419). This scene is significant because Zeus completely changed the companions’ fate. Instead of letting them sail back home safely and reunite with their families as they planned to, Zeus broke apart their ship and let the men drown. However, this scene is also significant because Odysseus was able to use his godlike strength to change the fate the gods planned for him.…
