They pick and choose sections of the Bible they believe in and disregard other portions they don’t understand or simply don't like creating a watered-down verse of Christianity. But God’s Word teaches us that all Scripture is true. “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16 NIV).
Does it matter if the Bible is inerrant? What are the implications to a Bible that is contradictory? What is at stake in that conversation? Yes, absolutely! It is important that we believe the Bible is the infallible Word of God in it’s entirely. It is Rock on which we stand and the foundation for everything in our lives; how we live, the choices we make; and what we profess to be true and good. The world (Satan) is attacking our belief system; sometimes ever so slowly without us even realizing it. Sadly, many of us incorporate the values and ideals we see on TV, or that of a co-worker, into our own Biblical worldview thus diluting and corrupting the Word of God. For example, the Bible teaches sexual purity but how many times are Christians falling into lust or sexual sin and justifying their actions because society says it’s okay. How do Jesus’s statements about the authority of His words help in your understanding of the importance of scripture?
I never thought of Jesus using the Old Testament in His teachings as proof of the inerrancy of the God of Word before this class. For me, this was a wonderful revelation!
As God in human form, Jesus confirms the authority of the Scripture; even though it was written by man. He said, “the Scripture cannot be broken” (John 10:35), it was “the commandment of God” (Matthew 15:3), and was the “Word of God” (Mark 7:13). Jesus consistently referred to Scripture to support His illustrations, rebuke His disciples and enemies. He quoted from it often and trusted it fully. It is clear that Jesus regarded the Old Testament as the very Word of God. If we accept Jesus as our Savior, then we should also believe the Old Testament to be true because Jesus Himself believed it to be
