One issue that is notoriously more visible in the South is the submissive role that women must play, opposed to her husband, or any male on the street for that matter. This has been an issue that has been in The United States for decades, for example, the typical 1960’s housewife that only has one goal: please her husband through cooking, cleaning, and other household tasks. Unfortunately, this is an issue still going on in other countries where women must be submissive to any man, regardless if she wants to or not. In regards to The Bible Belt, Southern religion is special because it practices the issues that other countries are going through daily, just in a lighter way. For example, women in other countries are being forced to marry someone that his or her parents choose. In Southern religion, arranged marriages are not set up, however, some parents are infamous for not allowing daughters, especially to even date someone the opposite race, and same sex might as well be unheard of. It is so common in the South that one Christian Missionary published an article titled “How to Make Your Wife Submit to Your Authority”, written only four years ago (Anne, pg. 74). This is due to the fact that Christianity in the South is often warped and molded into whatever someone wants it to be whether it is to refute someone expressing his or her legal right to love whomever, or it is a woman rightfully wanting the same pay as her male co-worker. Southern Christians tend to pick out pieces and verses of The Bible that fit into the context that is already given. This then leads to misinformation by reading one sentence out of context. This misinformation is then passed on to families, friends, co-workers, and the cycle does not end through generations. This division of the Northern and Southern United States due to religion is an ongoing issue that continually tears people and loved ones apart. By giving more information to public schools and giving adults more education on several topics, issues regarding religion may be discussed easier and will eventually be more acceptable to discuss and
