The Gospels

The Gospel consists of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John. Within these books are four different authors. The uniqueness about each book is that they are all told from different perspectives centering on the coming of Jesus, His crucifixion, and resurrection.

Mathew's point of view is all about how Jesus has fulfilled God's plans to provide the world with a savior. One key theme that is expressed is how Jesus is the Messiah which was "planned and prophesied by God” (65).

Next is Mark. Mark was written in the "early 60's” and his main viewpoint was on how Jesus has

Richard Bauckham thesis argues the point that the witnesses of the Gospel of Mark not only set the oral tradition but still remain important to Christians today. He furthermore argues that the gospel is more related to the way the eyewitnesses related their stories to the writers of the gospels. Richard Bauckham states that, “I argued that the eyewitnesses to the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus did not simply set the oral traditions of Jesus and his teaching going at the beginning, but remind important figures in the early Christian movement.…

Jordan, I found your response to be similar to mine, in the sense of your examples. You used the beginning of both stories as your starting example for differences. This was probably the one of the biggest differences between the stories. Matthew’s story begins with a detailed history of how Jesus was born with many references to the Old Testament, but Mark’s skipped this section and instead just introduced Jesus; and where he came from. This was important so that the reader can identify what the author’s take value in, throughout the stories.…

Despite not being the first written records of the New Testament, the Gospels-Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, when reading comprehensively, they provide an overview of the key events in the life of Jesus. The Gospels give the foundation and origination of the Christian faith and everything to follow, the remaining New Testament writings elaborate and express doctrine surrounding the applications of teachings, examples, and parables of Christ. I believe the Gospels were placed first to in the New Testament to effectively minister and help those in the Gentile community.…

Which also leads readers to believe that the author of the book of Matthew was not ever actually present for the events that he or she writes about (Harrington 1991, 8). In fact, Matthew’s name was not even attributed to this particular writing until the second century, when Papias, the Bishop of Hierapolis said, ‘“Matthew compiled the sayings in the Hebrew language, and everyone translated them as well as he could (Harrington 1991, 3).” ’ Because he said this, it lead to the belief that this Gospel was written by Matthew, when it may, in fact, have been someone else. Because of…

Austin Price The Gospel of John is the last of the four gospels in the Bible. It is a different perspective from the simple style of the three synoptic gospels. It is the only gospel that does not use parables as a way of telling us how Jesus taught and is the only account of several events, such as Jesus turning water into wine. The Gospel of John was written anonymously but many theologians believe that it was written by the apostle John sometime around 95 CE in Ephesus.…

I chose to write about Matthew and John because they are the first and last of the Gospels. I am also the most interested in these two books since one is a synoptic Gospel and the other is not. Matthew and John are both Gospels. However, Matthew is a synoptic gospel and John is not. John is different than all the other Gospels and is not considered a synoptic Gospel because it does not contain the birth of Jesus.…
