'Biased In The Great Refusal'

News stories are biased because of how they are interpreted by people and what the media chooses to include or not include in their stories. This makes it biased. We all receive information and think about things differently. It’s not the news that presents the events differently, it is the individual and their understanding of the past and present that forms their opinion about the events presented. Therefore, bias in the news will always be there because we all view and interpret information our own way and the information presented or left out of the news stories can influence our opinions. When there is news on Television or in social media, we may not get the full story, which makes a difference on how we receive it. It depends on what the media wants us to hear. There are two Biases that Gladstone mentions that stands out to the news stories about the same topic and presented the same information. They are Visual and Bad news Bias. For example, in the “Great Refusal” by Brooke Gladstone it states, “News that has a visual hook is more likely to be noticed” (334). What Gladstone means is they are much news out there that will grab our attention. Visual Bias relates to the two news stories. The reason why because just from the tittle of the news it can grab anyone’s attention, even if it’s around someone’s hometown.
Also, in “The Great Refusal” by Brooke Gladstone states “we are wired to care about anything that even remotely threatens us... this makes the world seem more dangerous than it actually is” (331). What Gladstone is trying to say is that news bias can affect us and lead up to feel more or less secure in the places where we go? In relation to the news stories mentioned above, it all goes back to the two news stories mention above. These events show that we are can’t always be secure anywhere we go.
