Document 7 states that the crusader knights often committed atrocities against Eastern Orthodox Christians, Jews, and Muslims. This is interesting because the knights are supposed to protect against attackers or intruders. Document 4 states that the Muslims destroyed its magnificent library, they also grabbed thousands of relics that were later sold in Europe. This is relevant because the library is important to the Christians also the Muslims stole their relics and sold them. During the Middle Ages the Pope was the most powerful man in Europe, so when Pope Urban the second said that “Muslims were the enemies of God”, people were quick to agree. The Pope originally had only intended for the knights to fight the war with the Muslims, but he was so inspiring that commoners decided to fight too.(Chrisp 14) Over 20,000 people made up the People’s Crusade, which was a group of commoners who were dedicated to the crusades, and “all in all about 150,000 men, women, and children became crusaders. ”(Nicolle 28) Within the year, knights and peasants from all over Europe set off towards Jerusalem.(Chrisp 14)…
The ninth century can be characterized as an age of turbulence and chaos caused by the Viking invasions and atrocious leadership. Due to these things, the government felt the need for protection, and became accustomed to a feudal government. Feudalism is the political, military, and legal relationship between a lord and a vassal. In order for this system to work, fife was exchanged for loyalty, a ceremony was held for a vassal to pledge fealty to their royal, and the Truce of God was out into place.…
Firstly, due to the many different accounts and perspectives of the Crusades, the Crusades show a prime example of how multiple perspectives must be analyzed in history in order to get the most accurate information possible. In addition, the Crusades show how biases must be considered from all sources, as it is clear that different groups of people will have different reactions and views to situations. If the Crusades are looked at from solely a Western perspective, which they unfortunately oftentimes are, a true understanding of the Crusades cannot be gained. In order to truly understand what happened throughout the Crusades, Western European, Jewish, Byzantine and Islamic viewpoints must be considered as well. This lesson is one that is critical when studying all events in history and helps display the importance of studying the Crusades.…
The purpose of Linda Brodkey's “Writing on the Bias” was too illustrate that learning how to write cannot be done through a strict set of rules that someone simply follows blindly. Brodkey disagrees with the way she was taught to read in school and how it is not real writing. She tells how as a child all she wanted to do was follow the rules of writing. This did her no good, it was not until her last years in college that she actually began questioning those who were setting down these rules she was supposed to be following. After she realized this was when she really learned how to write, which in a way set her free.…
Bias is shown through society when the novel To KIll A Mockingbird shows how the people in Maycomb feel about African American people with other things like how to dress or how you should behave. A child’s point of view is used because children are not as biased as adults are and learn to see biases only from adults. Biases in the real world like happen all the time and in my experience kids don’t have many biases as adult that affect society.…
In the short film “Silent Beats” there was many signs of bias between the clerk running the store and his customers. Bias is a prejudice in favour or against one thing, person, or group compare to another, usually in a way considered to be unfair. For example: Someone can be bias to a specific person for there race, religion, or even creed based on past events that occured with people who shared the same race, religion, or creed as them. A few forms of bias were shown in the short film we watched yesterday, some towards the white old lady and some towards the black teenager.…

Religion was pretty big with the Crusades were the Christians, Muslims, and Jews. It was thought that Christianity was to remove the Jews and Muslims, no matter what the price may be. Because of the way that the Crusades portrayed the Christians, society saw them as cruel and cold blooded animals for all of the violence they used against the Jews and Muslims. Not only did they affect Europe, but they also affect society today. If one country is to want something, they will stop at nothing to get what they want, whether it includes violence or not.…
The Muslims ordered Christians and Jews in the holy land to be stamped. Churches were destroyed, monks were beheaded, and crosses…
The Crusade had taken over lands and slaughter many but it was that they were unable to hold Levant, and all conquests were reversed back into the hands of Muslims. Every Crusader kingdom was eventually overrun and cased to exist. Therefore, the military control of the region ended in a failure. The religious “liberation” of Jerusalem from the hand of Muslims was not accomplished. While catholic Christians gained control of the region, they were not successful in converting the local citizens.…
