Bianca's Race, Ethnicity And Social Class

Bianca’s race/ ethnicity and social class impact her identity beliefs. Bianca’s identity beliefs derive, in large part, from her understanding and internalization of socialization messages receive from her family and suburban community. Bianca’s, upper class, class allows social and economic advantages that other youths might not have. Bianca’s decreased exposure to personal and societal racism, poverty and minorities will affect her social views, and how healthy she adjusts to social differences. In addition to the impartment on social adjustment, Bianca’s race/ ethnicity and class pressures her behind her developmental sub-stage. According to Frable (1997), the evidence all points to one cause underlying the different disturbances documented: pressure for high-octane achievement. The children of affluent parents expect to excel at school and in multiple extracurricular and also at home (p.16). In the film, Bianca feels a relentless sense of pressure to excel at school and home, like Kat. Bianca’s need for a break from her father’s pressure and expectations displays through their arguments. As a Caucasian American, Bianca can’t relate to defining her racial membership, it is established, and stigma and racial discriminations are the less of her problems. Bianca’s academic advancement might have individual-level barriers, but systemically her barriers are less and in some ways reduce. Early in the movie, Bianca sexual orientation is display. As a heterosexual teen, Bianca has the privilege to talk about her relationship with peers without them questioning her normalcy.
