From middle school to high school, band became a vital part of my life. It was all I knew, it was where I felt comfortable, and this was where I pratically began learning about my leadership skills. However, my curiousity grew when I was introduced to Class Council. I thought that there was no difference, and I naively thought that since I have been a part of a leadership role for about 4 years, everyone knows me, so I thought Class Council could not be so hard. I was terribly wrong.…

In my senior year of high school, I became the flute section leader. It had been a position I had tried out for once before, my junior year, but lost out to a senior. I was responsible for teaching the rookies and guiding the upperclassman through the processes of learning the show music, the pep band music, and the proper marching technique. In addition, I had to always be prepared for the off chance that someone would forget something necessary for either the football games and competitions. Lastly, I made sure that as a section everyone was in a position to give a hundred percent at every performance.…

I do think that everyone is capable of being a leader in different situations. For those not born with leadership qualities, I think it takes time and practice to become a good leader. They may have to try harder to be charismatic, hard-working, influential, or good at speaking. I also think that people who are incapable of learning the skills of a good leader are still capable of being a leader in other ways. More introverted people can lead by example or without being direct.…
