Many people often wonder, “How is ballet dancing and writing similar?” The only good answer to that commonly asked question is that both require alone time to hone individual skills and time with peers to get feedback. While most writers generally start and finish works on their own, unlike ballerinas who usually perform together and are judged together, both receive constructive criticism from others either during their preparation or after their…

Rhetorical appeals in writing are important they allow the piece to target an audience. The article I chose was “Engaged or Detached” by David Brooks. In this piece of writing by David Brooks says that authors need to keep a separated viewpoint so as to sincerely educate their readers. Brooks characterizes the contrasts between an engaged writer and a detached writer as the distinction between truth chasing and activism. The objectives of an engaged writer are to have a constrained "prompt political impact" while separated journalists have more sensible objectives, meaning to give a more objective point to see.…

As Gethin explains, even though all beings possess klesas, tathagatagarbha is eternally untarnished (pg. 252). Gethin explains on page 87, “when it is cleaned, the kernel can always be used.” This means that every person possesses garbha despite the klesas.…

The Bhagavad-Gita is a rather small section in the overall massive text of the Mahabharata. However, the size of this passage had no effect on its ability to influence. The likes of Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Annie Besant, and Mohandas K. Gandhi were all inspired or influenced by this text. The Bhagavad-Gita wouldn’t be the inspiring text is it today if it hadn’t been influenced by many other religious texts that came before it. The Bhagavad-Gita takes ideas from other religious texts and reinterprets them to fit with its own agenda.…

The Mahabharata is the oldest of the great epics of Hindu literature and is the longest poem ever written, with 100,000 stanzas arranged in 18 books. The work is actually a compilation of material from a number of sources from different periods, and there may have been earlier versions of varying lengths. There is no single version of the work today because not all of it has been translated and released, and the text is under restoration at the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute in Poona, India, with successive portions of the text having been edited and published from there since 1927. The work in its present form dates from about the year 400 and is made up of a mass of legendary and wisdom material worked around a central narrative concerning the struggle for power between two related families. Within this larger work is the famous "Bhagavad Gita," or "The Lord's Song," standing as the single most significant religious text of Hinduism.…
