Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief of someone or something is dangerous; likely to cause pain or a threat. Everyone feels fear at some point in time. If we didn’t feel it, we couldn’t protect ourselves from a legitimate threat. Many people view the feeling of fear as a motivational force. Although, some people just don’t care about being scared. Some people even thrive off of fear. In my opinion, I think that fear is an excellent source of motivation. It can turn a person’s life around when they view the consequences of whatever wrong that they’re doing. A source of fear would also give a person a piece of mind and make them aware that they need to change their ways.

The success of the film Scared Straight led to a series based off of the same concept of the film, Beyond Scared Straight, on January 13, 2011 to September 3, 2015. Similar to the film, the series featured a group of juvenile delinquents and their encounter with criminals in a maximum-security prison. The episode (“Corcoran”) will be used as an example. The names of the teens were Abraham, Elijah, Thomas, Stephen, Armando, and Josh. The teens learned that living life in prison is an unnerving and frightening experience. After their encounter with some of the criminals, they learned first-hand that you are told when to eat, sleep, wake-up, etc. In addition to fear motivating a person towards certain actions, in the resolution of (“Corcoran”), the program convinced most of the teens and made them aware that they needed to change their ways.
