“You should never stop learning to own words. There are always more words, deeper meanings, and more stories to go with those words. Each time I witness one of these words in action, I come to own it more completely.” stated Mike Krzyzewski, known to many as Coach K. There are multiple words that can be used to explain plentiful situations in life, whether on or off of the basketball court. Some of those words, that do not seem to be right for the position that they are put in, often times will end up making sense. Such as failure, with the expression by Michael Jordan, “I have failed over and over again. That is why I succeed.” Success and failure are two opposites, but they are both powerful words, that can mean a lot when used together. There are a multitude of ways to describe the pride you posses. You can give it your all no matter the circumstances, you can play and work for your teammates or coworkers or you can give it your all because it is yours. Truly giving your all for your team or for your business, is a great representation of the pride that you have. Mike first learned about pride from his mother as she told him, “Michael, everything you do has your personal signature on it. You should take pride in it because it is yours” (135). According to Mike, his mother just did not tell him what pride was, but she exemplified the many aspects of pride, as he grew up and through his career. Mike has had some unbelievably proud moments in his life and his career. As the text proposes, “One of the proudest days in my life was when I was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001” (137) Without giving his all at every given opportunity, most likely this accolade could not be possible.
