It was warm, humid and cloudy on the day of our Jack Johnson concert. Despite the warmth, it was a perfect day to be outside and sitting on the lawn at the DTE Music Center to enjoy some relaxing tunes. Jack Johnson is classified as a folk and acoustic rock musician, however I compare him between a calmer version of John Mayer and Jason Mraz combined. He plays an acoustic electric guitar, but his guitar playing skills are nowhere near as good as his writing skills. He plays basic guitar chords, but his lyrics make the music.…

The Obladee wine bar is a small venue on Barrington street that can accommodate roughly 80 patrons before seating runs out, with very little standing room. It is a dimly lit bar with four staff working for the evening, two bartenders and two servers working opposite ends of the short narrow venue. There are a few decorative plants and candles scattered throughout. I Sat opposite of the musicians by the door, behind me there was a mural of a trumpeter sitting on the ground playing with his back rested against the wall by ‘Nathan Goone 2014’. The four musicians were crammed together on a seven by four-foot mat, playing directly in each other’s faces.…

A staff member got a glimpse of the signs the ladies were carrying which led to a surprise that none of them could have expected. Country Rebel reported the women were given first and second row seats, but that was just the beginning of the special night Ellis was about to have.…

Beyoncé Style Jambalaya: Lemonade Beyoncé’s visual album Lemonade goes beyond the supposed emotional turmoil of her marriage with Jay-z. Throughout the album and film, Beyoncé touches on subjects of social injustices and black culture while also incorporating various genres and other successful celebrities. Through Beyoncé’s visual album “Lemonade”, Beyoncé does what any Beyoncé fan (or observer) would expect her to do, she performs greatly to her equally as great music. But not only is “Lemonade” a musical masterpiece, but also a firm demonstration of how Beyoncé is an Unapologetic Black Woman and feminist. Emotional Turmoil: Beyoncé begins her album with a prologue “praying to catch” Jay-z “whispering” along with “praying” he’ll actually…

Parkwood Entertainment is a company that helps produce Beyoncé’s music and accompanying music videos. Seeing how Beyoncé is the founder of Parkwood Entertainment, it credits her with full control behind her production. She is in charge of all aspects of production. This ensures that all of the contents of her visual album, Lemonade, are genuine and all of the ideas portrayed come straight from the artist herself. “Formation” is the final music video of her visual album, Lemonade, where all of the music videos have the underlying theme of black empowerment, as every actor or actress in the film is black and shows specific shots of black communities and black people of interest.…

Attending my first concert, Idina Menzel was my first live performance to ever attend and experience the music live. Menzel performs a selection of songs from her Broadway career, along with original songs from her various solo albums, and her Pop and Rock covers. The group that performed for Menzel was a local Los Angeles band and they played very well for the choices of songs she sang. The performers that played for Menzel was very impressive and seemed they had no problem playing and following the beat of the singer’s voice.
