Poets such as Sharon Olds and Andrew Marvell view love and relationships differently. These poets reveal this through their tone and diction throughout their poems. Sharon Olds describes love and relationships as being intimate on an emotional level with a loved one. However, Andrew Marvell’s perception on love and relationships is seen as having sexual intercourse early because there is no time to be wasted on romance. The truth is that love is not always what it seems to be.…

Like popular music, the majority of country songs deal with love. Easily the single most prominent theme in country music is unsatisfactory love relations. An earlier study of popular music found expressions of romantic discord to be common. In country music, however, the audience not only knows that the singer is unhappy but is candidly told why. If satisfactory male-female relations are equated with good marriage, then unsatisfactory relations are most often associated with a marriage that is going, or has gone, wrong.…

Analyzing “What It’s Like to Be a Black Girl” Patricia Smith’s poem, “What It’s Like to Be a Black Girl” (for those of you who aren’t) was an extremely emotional and eye opening poem. The poet describes through the eyes of a nine year old, what it’s like growing up in society a black girl, and suffering through life’s changes known as puberty. Society has planted a seed in her young and impressionable mind that being ethnic means nothing about her is right. To fully comprehend her perspective, it helps to analyze the elements of tone, imagery and symbolism. The tone the poet uses in “What It’s Like to Be a Black Girl” is verbal and dramatic irony.…

Jenee Desmond – Harris wrote an article called “Tupac and My Non-thug Life,” which was published in an online article called The Root. The title of this article seems very contradictory and that is because it is. This article is about how Desmond – Harris, as a young privileged half white, half black teenage girl, finds herself trying to embody Tupac after his death. The contradiction of this is that Desmond-Harris did not relate to Tupac in the ways of how they grew up. Desmond – Harris had yet to confront any of life’s hard edges when Tupac had passed.…

__I think the meaning of the song that Beyoncé wrote is describing pain and what females have to go to or young teens go through, trying to impress the world, and society. How that all what we do don’t mean anything or how we present ourselves maybe we aren’t too happy on the inside maybe everything isn’t all that’s well. I like the song genre because it really feels like music for our souls trying to heal it also. The new generation now we teenagers are affected by this particular song. I think the most powerful lyrics of the song is “pretty Hurts”, because that is the pain of the song the ultimate feelings that’s what she’s trying to get the audience to understand.…
