Beverley Allitt was born on October 4, 1968 to Richard and Lillian Allitt in Grantham, England. Richard Allitt worked in an off-licensed, while Lillian was a school cleaner. She was one of four children in her family (two sisters and one brother). Her parents and siblings claimed that Beverley showed no troubling signs as a child. She volunteered for many babysitting jobs and was her teacher’s favorite student. However, many stories contradict these statements, As a child, Beverley was described as being overweight and “very attention seeking”. She showed many signs of Munchausen's syndrome, a disorder where a person wants to constantly draw attention to themselves. She was aggressive towards and harmed other children. She murdered Liam Taylor, Timothy Hardwick, Becky Phillips, and Claire Peak. She murdered and attempted each of her victims by injecting them with high doses of insulin, potassium, and lignocaine when she was left alone with them (usually at night). Then, Beverley would call the resuscitation team to help save the child or they would come on their own. If the child was able to be saved, Allitt would attack once again. Allitt had characteristics of both disorganized and organized killers, but she had more similarities with disorganized killers. She never planned to directly go after a particular child and would just attack any child that was available, similar to the “blitz attacks” done by disorganized killers. While she did talk to the nurses in the hospital, she was not very close to them.
