One more element that I find important to the longevity of life is religion and spirituality.
In this transcript the National Geographic editor wanted Beuttner to find America’s blue zone.
They came across the longest lived population which happens to be among the Seventh-Day
Adventists. Located in Loma Linda, California, Adventists are known as conservative
Methodists. Spirituality is the most common denominator for these three different cultures. The
Sardinians and Adventists pray and the Okinawans celebrate their ancestors. Being a part of religious or spiritual groups adds an additional fourteen years to your life expectancy just by being around supportive people who believe in the same things as you. Even in the American society you are influenced by the people that surround you whether you know it or not.
With that being said, the topic of longevity is one that depends on the cultures and the willingness and desire to live a long life. These three blue zones really set the bar high for healthy living. I do believe my community would be able to adapt to these habits because they will only make life better for you. Being healthy, religious, and appreciative towards life will only make you
