Figure 9.6 is the less effective version of the persuasive message. This message uses two psychological tools of influence. Reciprocation and liking are the tools used to persuade the reader. Reciprocation is used by offering the members who sign up for the walkathon free items. Once members pay for the registration and receive the free items, they will feel obligated to attend to walkathon to repay their acceptance of the free items. Additionally, current credit unions members are being persuaded to feel obligated to participate in the walkathon due to they are already a part of the credit union team and want to feel like they are doing their part to help out in the community. Furthermore, it mentions that breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women. This is information and resonates with all woman. Any woman reading this message will feel obligated to participate because according to the statistics given, it is likely she may be diagnosed at some point in her life. The message transitions into logical during the last paragraph where it mentions how to become a member of the credit union. I would not consider this message warm and inviting. In fact, to some women it may be considered scary due to the statistics given. I would not consider this message plausible. The message would need to provide more persuasive details in order to convince all members that the money being raised will be put to good use. The details of the message are scattered and hard to read. I do consider this message respectful because the message gives credit to Betty Williams who is a survivor and started the cancer center. I trust this message, however, I would also like additional information regarding the connection between the credit union and cancer center as well as more information about how the walkathon will help women diagnosed with breast
