NEUMAN SYSTEM MODEL
Betty Neuman was born in Ohio and has worked in many areas of nursing practice. She is the founder/director of Newman Systems Model Trustees Group. In 1970,she began developing her Systems Model as a way to teach introductory nursing to students by giving them a holistic view of patients.Neuman’ s model was influenced by the philosophy writers deChardin and Comu,Von Betalanfy and Lazio on GST,Selye on stress theory Lasarus on stress and coping . The Neuman System Model is based on general system theory and reflects the nature of living organisms as open systems.(Alligood,2014).The Neuman Systems Model views the client as an open system that responds to stressors in the environment. The person is viewed as a client or Client system which could be an individual, a group, a community or social issues. The term holistic is been referred to enhance understanding to the whole person. (Alligood, 2014).Health-According to Neuman health is the condition in which all parts and subparts are in harmony with the whole client. Health is a “continuum; wellness and illness are at opposite ends…….. (McEwen&Wills, 2014).Environment-Refers to the totality of internal and external forces. Nursing-The aim is to keep client system stable through accurate assessment and to maintain optimum client health. As I read through the Neuman System model I felt it as fairly simple, dynamic and is straight forwarded .Moreover the model has a richness and depth that serves equally well for all levels of nursing education and also in a wide variety of nursing practice.Eventhough the model is not Testable ,its logical adequacy and empirical adequacy is
