Better On The Pacific Theater: Character Analysis

In the beginning of each episode they have brief interviews with the surviving members of the marines and they discuss what will be shown in each episode with maps, images, and videos. This really helps create a setting for the show and it also gives you a little background information they can’t explain while they are showing the actors portraying the characters. This television series helped me understand WWII better on the Pacific Theater because that was its main focus. I feel like I really got a better understanding of how emotionally draining fighting in a war is because looking at those soldiers they really couldn’t give up no matter what happened they felt like the needed to help but, at the same time they just wanted to leave. I also learned that the battle of Peleliu was pretty much disregarded and forgotten about even though a lot of men had suffered and it had the most deaths in U.S. history. …show more content…
The islands that these marines were on had living horrible conditions and they often got sick with diseases like malaria, the only place they didn’t find malaria on was Pavuvu. Pavuvu, though didn’t have any malaria, was full of rotten coconuts and crabs so the first job of the marines was to clear out anything that prevented them from setting up and creating camp. I also learned that because of rain and humidity many of the marines supplies got destroyed in Cape Glouster. I also learned that between 1942-1943 the marines had traveled down to Australia as a way to gain back strength before going off and fighting once again. This war was really devastating for many people and I learned so much things about how horrible the war was on the human body and food and it was definitely hard to live

In the end of the chapter Mai Thi and Mrs. Bigio were comforted by each…

During Gene’s time at Devon, he faced many internal conflicts. Most of which consisted in forms of raging envy for Finny’s unconditional talent for any sport, good looks, and popularity. Instead of accepting the fact that Finny was simply a better human and leaning his focus onto self-improvement, he concluded that Finny must be jealous too. Gene wanted to excel at something related to how Finny had exceeded. Wistfully Gene’s plan later resulted in Phineas’ death; therefore, he clearly did not deal with his conflict in an appropriate way, but Finny’s death did end Gene’s war.…

It is not enough to release Marines on liberty but critical to know enough about them and their family to ensure they are able to make important events in their families’ lives. Demonstrating that genuine care exists for the Marine’s overall well-being allows increased trust inside the workplace and more effort towards mission accomplishment. This simple ideology will reinforce the Marine 's commitment to the mission and to the leader with their blood, sweat, and tears and creates a selfless instead of selfish attitude among the unit. We currently have the most educated force in the history of our Marine Corps. The Marine Corps will risk stunting the growth of quality Marines if the leadership cannot embrace and adapt with the current times and problems.…

The last excerpt is from Lela Petala-Papadopoulou’s novel Καρτερώντας την άνοιξη [ Waiting for the spring, 1985] and manifests a remarkable shift in the representation of the motives of someone who becomes a wartime fout. As it was stressed at the beginning of this chapter, authors of the previous decade treated the issue of wartime collaboration in a superficial way and portrayed their fout characters as a mere handful of pathetic individuals whose motivations for collaborating with the enemies were all but ideological. Either due to fear or self-interest, innate cowardice or inherent malice, all fout characters in the texts of the previous decade are presented to have cooperated with the occupation forces for a number of reasons that are…
