Today I am going to tell you about the Betsy Ross House. The first American flag in history was made here.

The building is 250 years old. It is a “bandbox” style house. It has one room per floor and a winding staircase leading from the cellar of the building to the upper levels. The house has a large window on the first floor which is great for displaying merchandise, and over the years the house was used as a home for shopkeepers and artisans. This happened for over 150 years. After Betsy moved out of the house, a family of Germans named the Munds moved in. The Munds were shopkeepers. They took advantage of owning the house by advertising that this was the house where the first American flag was made, which helped them with

Eventually they accomplished this goal. Over the years, the house was restored and modified. For example, in 1974 the courtyard was renovated and a fountain added. Finally, in 1941, the property was officially given to the city of Philadelphia. Today, Historic Philadelphia Inc. owns the house, a non-profit organization that continues to manage the site. In the house you can see some of the things Betsy Ross and her family owned, such as Betsy Ross’ walnut chest-on-chest, her Chippendale and Sheraton side chairs, her eyeglasses, her quilted petticoat, and her Bible. The building is now a museum, and you can stop by and visit it if you like. This building is famous because Betsy Ross lived there for 3 years (1776-1779), and the house was where she made the first American flag. After that it was known as the Betsy Ross house. The fact that she made the flag there makes it a historic site. Today, there are no flags made there but people love to visit the place! It is a nice house, but not too big. It has the American flag hanging off the front of it (The original version of the American flag). The first American flag ever made was different from the American flag we have

In comparison to some of its fellow neighborhoods, Park Slope had a relatively quiet start to its modern story. Like much of New York City, the land that would eventually become Park Slope originally served as home to the Lenape tribe. In the 1600s, Dutch settlers began to move into the region where they would farm for 200 years. While the early story of Park Slope is certainly par for the course for New York City’s development, it does hold one early distinction the neighborhood remains proud to display. On 3rd Street lies a recreation of the historic Old Stone House of the Revolutionary War.…

My favorite in particular was the Hotel Ponce de León now known as Flagler College. Built in 1888 by Henry Flagler it was used as a hotel until 1967 and then turned into Flagler College. The house that was built in Chicago for Frederick C. Robie is all too familiar as an image and not much record as a tangible reality .Though it still stands, there is some debate as to whether it holds the pristine architectural history which its architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, and owner primarily designed for. Some illustrations and drawing documentation exist in the sense of the various individuals tied to relatives of the house or those who have done research but it has been in a stage of fading memoir since Wright, himself, tried to save the home. Frank Lloyd Wright believed in the beauty and perfection of nature; nature should be the great source of inspiration for architecture. To Wright, the organic forms of nature are what holistically…

The American flag has various definitions it just depends on seeing it from someone else’s point of view. While to some it means justice, to others this flag means pride, but to me our flag defines freedom, hope, and much more. So many years ago Americans fought for what they believed was right. They fought for their freedom, for their rights, for everything that we’ve come to know of today. Our flag represents the independence that was established on July 4, 1776, this was when the Declaration of Independence was signed by the founding fathers, and even though that day was a few centuries ago we still celebrate it today.…
