DeVos has never provided a service to students. She has never been in the school, talking to kids and faculty, meeting with school boards, and finding solutions to their problems. She doesn't understand how closing public schools affects social and economic justice. Just a quick explanation, The U.S. Department of Education states that approximately 90 percent of grade school students are enrolled in public schools. She pulled millions of dollars of funding from public schools in Michigan to support private schools. As to the dignity and worth of the person and the importance of human relationships, she has stated that people should just move if they want their kid to attend a better school, as though homes are cheap and easy to come by and people choose to place their children at failing schools. She worked against teacher unions that empower our nation's educators. She is actively supports anti-gay organizations and has all but said that it sucks to be poor. How on earth is this someone who should be making decisions for all students? Students include people who are not heterosexual and people who aren’t wealthy, but those people aren’t people she is as concerned with. Next we have integrity. This is one area I didn’t have as much of a problem with because she has morals and I will never fault someone for believing what they believe, but she has made plenty of questionable statements and had wishy-washy opinions on several topics.
