Summary

One day, Clay Jensen arrives home. He is greeted with a strange package. What Clay didn't know, was the story behind the package.
Hannah Baker moves to a small town named Crestmont. Her parents are hoping to pursue their own pharmacy; putting everything they have in the hands of a store. Hannah goes through a bunch of obstacles at school. Those obstacles lead her to commit suicide. In this realistic fiction book, you'll meet many people. Those include; Justin Foley (The jock of the school. He was Hannah's first kiss), Alex Standall (One of the first people that hangs out with Hannah), Jessica Davis (A girl who becomes close to Hannah but then gets in conflict with her), and Clay Jensen (A boy who falls in love with Hannah after she

I say this because it is a great hook for readers. It makes us want to read the book. It makes us want to understand what everything means. This passage has an important impact on the plot. It gives us hints on what we want to understand/what we are looking for. We really want to know what is so important about this shoebox.

"Sometimes I would stop by Monet's for a hot chocolate on my way home. I'd start my homework. Or sometimes I'd read. But I wasn't writing poetry anymore. I needed a break…from myself." Page 261

This passage goes deep in teenagers' lives. Teenage girls look down at themselves. In this story, Hannah looks down at herself a lot. That is one of the things that eats at her to kill herself. When the book says, "I needed a break… from myself." I feel like Hannah thinks she is the main reason that lead her to die. Girls in this century need to love themselves. They need to love themselves from their failures and their successful wins. I hope more girls continue to love their selves and start loving because life is short and we cannot waste time in the negative

It gives us an understanding of how Clay understands Hannah now. He knows what happened and why. If Clay did not listen to the tapes he would have that thought in his mind that he "killed" Hannah. I like how Jay Asher (the author) ended this book and the usage of words he described. Quotes

"Betrayal. It's one of the worst feelings." Page 44

I chose this quote because I can relate to it. Betrayal isn't a fun experience. When the quote says, "It's one of the worst feelings," I 100% agree. Being betrayed is like winning $100,000 only to find out your friend took it all to themselves. Everyone has to live with being betrayed. If you having been betrayal, you better be ready because it comes at unexpected times.

"I hardly knew Hannah Baker. I mean, I wanted to. I wanted to know her more than I had the chance. […] We never had the chance to get closer. And not once did I take her for granted. Not once." Page 40

This quote tells us how Clay feels about Hannah. Clay wanted to know her better. Clay wanted to get closer. And he did not once take her for granted. You never know what you had until it's gone. We humans in society should take everything for granted. Whether it seems small or it's a big part in your life, we need to be

    Clay And Hannah Analysis

To me the alternating narration between Clay and Hannah is an interesting way to tell her story because it gives you hannah's story along with Clays input on what happened and what he has heard. As for if this type of narration enhanced the the story I would have to say yes and no to that. It is a yes in the way that you get to see both side of the coin and by that I mean that you can see what was really happening to her and what Clay thought was going on. It is also a no because it can be somewhat hard to read because Hannah could be talking and then Clay gives his input and it can be somewhat hard to know who is talking if you are not paying attention. As for what I think everyone will take away from Hannah’s tapes are that some small that you do can affect someone in a big way.…
