Hassan had the start of a bad life from the moment he was born. His mother didn't want to hold him because he was a Hazara, something that was technically forbidden in the area he lived in. People made fun of him and even Amir acted a little funny around him when other people were around. There are a few moments where Hassan does not betray nor shut out Amir. The first one is after he was raped. Amir was acting very shady and did not want to continue a friendship with Hassan because of his own personal issues of him not wanting to face the guilt. But Hassan still went up to Amir begging and pleading to be Amir's friend again and not wanting to end their journeys. Amir denied him. Next Amir planted money and a watch under his bed and told his father that Hassan stole them. Once again Hassan lied for Amir and said that he did steal them. Later on in the book, he is invited back to the house by Rahim Khan, a family friend. When told to stay inside the house, Hassan refuses and insists on staying in the little hut he stayed in as a child out of respect for Amir. He even continued to tell his son and wife about all their experiences saying nothing but delightful things about him and on top of that, wrote letters to him constantly to maybe rekindle
