The book takes a while to show Baba’s true betrayal to those he loves as he played the role of the hard but soft lover the entire time during Amir and Hassan’s childhood. Amir made the amazing discovery of his father’s past,“And now fifteen years after I’d buried him, I was learning that Baba had been a thief. And a thief of the worst kind, because the things he’d stolen had been sacred: from me the right to know I had a brother, from Hassan his identity, and from Ali his honor, His nang. His namoos”(197). Amir finally discovered the secrets his father had and how they affected their family all of these years. Baba has already passed and redeemed hsi sins but no one really knows of that besides himself. As he left Amir alone, Amir can no longer see his father in the same light that he began to see within the coming of America. Baba always told Amir that theft was the worst sin as you were always taking something from someone else but now Amir feels betrayed to be lied to and cannot understand whether he feels his father's mark is left as a hypocrite or a man who did what he could to save his family. Again & Again represents the deception of those who are close to one another and the atonement one shall receive, which also took place within the novel being analyzed. The art piece is split into two different section: betrayal & redemption. The betrayal side shows different pieces of art that emphasize the pain and unloyalty of those who share a bond in a certain form. It shows, a black and white picture in which a young child is watering the venus fly trap only for the fly trap to sneak around in route to attack it. There is a phrase “bite the hand that feeds you” that explains that there is an ungrateful person who wishes to turn on someone who has supported them through many events in life. In this case there is a literal correlation as the young child is the one feeds the flower and is about to be attacked by something that they care for and support on another level. This emphasizes that sins are committed by those close to us in order to bring us down, but the attack on the child will only hurt the flower because then no one will be able to feed it along with the possibility of being killed itself.
